Sarah Ortiz Shields: program manager, problem solver, civic-tech enthusiast,

chatterbox, &

voting advocate

Hi y’all, I’m Sarah!

I moved to Texas 10 years ago, hot off the trail from living in NYC for just shy of 10 years. Most of my career has been spent managing engineering and creative teams at startups and software companies.

Several years ago, I thought, “there has to be a way that I can apply my tech, project management, and product skills to build products for my community….” It was then that I quit my cushy tech job and left the mountains of free snacks and seltzer water for the $0.50 a day coffee in the City of Austin City Manager’s office. It was also there that I learned that my passion is building better services for government and citizens, and advocating for community engagement through civic engagement.

Nowadays, I spend my time building tech products for the community, advocating for civic engagement in Austin, connecting people, and advocating for tech at the state and local level through policy.

To learn more about me, check out my resume, the work I do in the community, or case studies of my work.

Thanks for stopping by.
