MapMyFitness Challenges were created as a custom promotional sales tool for brands to interact with the fitness community. By logging miles in the MapMyFitness platform, participants became eligible for prizes from sponsors.

My position was to run the Challenges team and act as a conduit between the sales team and the engineering team. Serving in this role posed many (ahem) challenges since everyone who has worked with a sales team knows that they sometimes promise things that are out of scope.

My role was to keep track of design, content, and engineering team resources, communicate with corporate UA, write requirements in Jira, document projects in Confluence, keep the 20+ person team on track, and deliver on-time for the sales team.

Over the course of three years, we went from building custom sites to creating an in-house plug-n-play CMS that account managers had access to and could develop their own websites.

While it’s always fun to create products that automate you out of a job, it was during this time I found my calling as a public servant and joined the City of Austin.
